Hi everyone,
I hope Santa was good to you and that you had a very pleasant few days with friends and relations.
So many are now on annual leave and enjoying a break from the normal routine. If you are away from home, I trust you have a good selection of reading with you. Even though I know we will be buying books whenever we take a few days holiday, I can never leave home without one or two books in my luggage. I guess it’s a bit like fear of having nothing to read in the unlikely event we don’t visit a bookshop or two or three wherever we go and I would be lost without anything on hand. I even read the cornflake package while I’m eating breakfast!
Auctions and buying have slowed down with the Christmas break. I did get some great additions to our Aborigines section in early December, along with some good art and a fair amount of stock that was good basic titles but nothing outstanding.
For those who missed out on the old family Bibles I bought a few months ago I did get another copy of a Scott & Henry which will need just a little restoration before it goes on sale. Look for it on the shelves towards the end of the month.
A shipment of hard cover copies of Terry Pratchett arrived from Canada just before Christmas as well. Some have already sold as gifts but there are three or four left. He has become very collectable with early editions selling for a very high price.
Did you know we have a contact (Otto) in Florida who specializes in American first editions for very reasonable prices? He sends them to us in an M bag which is a very economical way of posting heavy items. They come by sea so we have to wait a while for them to arrive but when the cost is averaged out over the whole shipment it costs very little at all.
Otto has just emailed to say he has a good selection of titles at the moment that are signed by the author. So if you are interested in any of the following please let us know fairly quickly so we can place them on hold ready for the next bag.
James Patterson:
1st to Die
Violets are Blue
Pop Goes the Weasel
Four Blind Mice
When the Wind Blows
Jester
Anne Rice:
Menoch the Devil
Queen of the Damned
Stuart Woods:
Dirt
Dirty Work
Cold Paradise
Santa Fe Rules
Sue Grafton:
Q is for Quarry
K is for Killer
P is for Peril
Robert Ludlum:
Bourne Identity
Aquataine Progression
Jonathan Kellerman:
The Web
And more...
If you know anyone who collects one of these authors then a signed copy would be a wonderful gift for them during the year. Indeed it would be a great gift to yourself as well.
If you are interested, please let us know and we’ll get exact details and costs for you. His costs are very reasonable although we would expect to pay a little more for a signed copy.
Very good wishes for the new year, I hope it will be a healthy, happy and profitable year for you and your families.
Regards,
Barbara
