Hi,

I’m so pleased you signed up for our mailing list and I plan to keep you better informed in future about what is going on in the store.

We have just had our eleventh birthday and how the years have flown. The shop has grown enormously since we opened with 5000 books in Castle Hill in November 1993. We now have over 25,000 books, with a good selection on just about every subject. Even though I do the buying and put the books into the database, I sometimes lose track and it's only when I have the time to tidy the shelves that I see them as a whole and I think, “yes, we do have a good selection!”

So often customers compliment us on our range and it is always pleasant to hear except when it is followed by the comment “There are too many to choose from. I’ll have to come back.” What we would like to hear is “What a great selection! I’ll have this one now and will come back again.”

I’ve just bought a superb collection of History & Archaeology books. Some have gone on to the November selection, but I don’t have the time to list them all in detail. If you can’t come in and browse, email me the titles of those that interest you and I’ll get back with more details.

Also just bought and waiting to be catalogued are some very interesting old naval books that came from a retired sea captain and a lot of naval fiction (Douglas Reeman, Dudley Pope, Alexander Kent). They should be going up in the next few weeks.

We are now updating the database every week so there is a fairly good chance that what you see on the website is still available.

I’d also like to invite you to send us a book review. It need not be elaborate. Just what you are reading, why you chose it, what you enjoyed (or disliked) and who might also enjoy it. If our webmaster thinks it is good enough to put on the site we’ll send you a gift certificate for $20.

Bye for now,
Barbara
